Once deported, man faces federal, state drug charges

A 59-year-old man with a last known address in Mariners Harbor was arrested by New York police officers for allegedly trying to sell cocaine on Kinsey Place. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials were tipped off to the man's illegal status when it was discovered that he had been deported over 20 years ago to his home country of Trinidad and Tobago. It is not clear when the man returned to the U.S.

In addition to drug trafficking charges the man faces deportation and federal charges for illegally re-entering the country. He also faces 20 years behind bars and a hefty fine, according to the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York. He also faces nine years in jail for the state drug charges.

He was deported back in 1992 after being found guilty of two felonies a year earlier. He was convicted on aggravated counts of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and heroin in different states.

When people who have been detained, are currently incarcerated and face deportation, or have received a notice to appear before ICE authorities, a good immigration attorney will do all the necessary paperwork and present a thorough defense against deportation or removal in cases where possible defenses exist, even for people who have become subject to removal due to criminal convictions. If you have received a notice to appear from the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement or removal proceedings have already begun, contact an experienced deportation defense attorney now. Feel free to visit our Staten Island, New York, immigration attorney web site to learn more about this and other deportation defense strategies.
