Same-sex couples may see expanded immigration rights

As many in New York are aware, this week the Supreme Court heard arguments about whether the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act is constitutional. DOMA limits marriage to relationships between one man and one woman, which means that same-sex couples who marry in states where it is legal are not recognized as being married by the federal government.

Religious leaders gather on Staten Island for immigration reform

The United States has long had the reputation among immigrants of being a nation of opportunity, but too often families are divided by deportation and struggle from a lack of proper access to medical care and a decent wage. Earlier this month, Staten Island religious leaders from the Jewish, Christian and Muslim faiths got together to draw attention to the need for meaningful immigration reform that doesn't divide the families of undocumented workers.
