NYC takes another step to help immigrant population

Over the last few years, officials in New York City have taken what could perhaps best be described as a progressive stance toward immigration. By way of illustration, consider that the City Council voted to create a municipal ID program that has since become the largest in the nation back in June 2014, and that just four months later, it passed a bill stating that the city would limit its cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement's deportation actions going forward.

Why are asylum seekers being detained at immigration centers?

In the United States, citizens are fortunate to enjoy many freedoms and opportunities. These include freedom from persecution with regard to religion and freedom of choice with regard to personal views and political ideologies. Sadly, millions of people around the world don't enjoy these same freedoms and spend their lives fearing persecution, violence and death.

Could Trump's anti-Muslim immigration policy ever become law?

This past Sunday evening, in the wake of the tragic San Bernardino shooting last week, President Barack Obama addressed the American public. Obama's message was one of resilience as he stressed the importance of not giving in to fear, coming together and of upholding the very ideals of freedom and inclusion upon which the United States was founded. While his message no doubt resonated with many U.S. citizens, it apparently didn't sit well with Republican presidential candidate front-runner Donald Trump.

The challenges of obtaining a non-immigration visa

In order to visit the United States, citizens of other countries must obtain a visa. In cases where an individual plans to travel to the U.S. as a tourist or visitor, he or she must apply and be awarded what's know as a B-2 visa. However, the process of applying for even a non-immigrant visa can be laborious and requires that an individual complete the online DS-160 application.
